에베소서 2장 2절의 "이 세상"은 많은 시대들로 구성된 사탄적인 체계를 말합니다. 또한 로마서 12장 2절의 "시대"라는 단어는 사탄의 체계의 한 부분, 한 단면, 한 측면, 특히 그러한 체계의 현재와 최신의 모습을 말하는 것으로, 사탄이 사람들을 사로잡고 점유하여 그들로 하나님과 그분의 목적으로부터 빗나가게 하는데 사용합니다. 우리가 허물과 죄들 가운데서 죽어 있었을 때, 우리는 사탄적인 체계인 세상의 풍속, 최신의 모습, 현재의 추세에 따라 행했습니다. 오늘날 세상은 최신의 모습이 있습니다. 더구나 세상의 시대는 흐름을 지닌 조류가 있습니다. 한때 우리는 현시대의 흐름에 따라 행했습니다. 사람들이 시대의 경향을 따를 때, 이것은 그들이 죽어 있으며 시대의 흐름에 따라 떠다니는 시체라는 강한 표시입니다. 나는 이것의 좋은 예를 보았습니다. 어느 날 언덕의 경사를 따라 흘러가는 시내를 지나가게 되었습니다. 그 시내는 흐름을 따라 떠내려가는 낙엽으로 가득 차 있었습니다. 낙엽 사이에서 작은 물고기 몇 마리가 흐름을 거슬러 헤엄을 쳐 올라가고 있었습니다. 물고기는 생명으로 충만하기 때문에 흐름을 거슬러 헤엄을 칠 수 있었습니다. 그러나 낙엽에는 생명이 없었기 때문에 단지 흐름에 의해 떠내려 갈 뿐이었습니다. 낙엽은 흐름을 저항하거나 거슬러 올라갈 생명이 없었습니다. 전에는 우리도 죽어 있어서 시대의 흐름에 의해 떠내려갔지만, 지금 우리는 살아났고 흐름이 우리를 떠내려가게 할 수 없습니다. “This world” refers to the satanic system composed of many ages. The word “age”here refers to a part, a section, an aspect, of the system of Satan, particularly thepresent and modern appearance of that system, which is used by him to usurpand occupy people and keep them away from God and His purpose. When we weredead in offenses and sins, we walked according to the age, the modernappearance, the present course, of the world, the satanic system. Today the worldalso has its modern appearance. Furthermore, the age of the world has a tide witha current. Once we walked according to the current of the present age. Whenpeople follow the trend of the age, this is a strong sign that they are dead, thatthey are corpses carried along by the current of the age. I saw an excellentillustration of this... I passed by a creek which flowed down the slope of a hill.The creek was full of dead leaves that were being swept along with the current.Among the leaves some little fish were swimming upstream against the current.Because the fish were full of life, they could swim against the current; but becausethe leaves were lifeless, they could only be carried away by the current. They didnot have the life to withstand the current and go against it... Once we also weredead and carried away by the tide of the age, but now that we have been madealive, the current cannot move us.
