존귀 가운데 안식하심

성경말씀

(요19:38~42) 이런 일이 있은 후, 예수님의 제자였으나 유대인들이 두려워서 그 사실을 숨겨 오던 아리마대 사람 요셉이 빌라도에게 예수님의 시신을 가져가게 해 달라고 요청하였다. 빌라도가 허락하자, 그가 와서 예수님의 시신을 가져갔다. 또 일찍이 밤에 예수님을 찾아왔던 니고데모도 몰약과 침향을 섞은 것을 백 리트라쯤 가지고 왔다. 그러므로 그들이 예수님의 시신을 모셔다가 유대인의 장례 관습대로 그 향료와 함께 세마포로 묶었다. 예수님께서 십자가에 못 박히신 곳에 동산이 있었으며, 그 동산에는 아직 아무도 장사 지낸 적이 없는 새 무덤이 있었다. 그날은 유대인의 예비일이었고, 또 무덤이 가까이 있었으므로 그들은 예수님을 거기에 안치하였다.

오늘의 만나

죽으심 안에서 그분의 역사를 완성하신 후에 주님은 안식하셨습니다. 요한복음 18장과 19장에서 우리는 주님께 닥쳐왔던 많은 악한 일들과 고통들을 봅니다. 어떤 이들은 그분을 악하게 대우했으며, 다른 이들은 그분을 조롱했으며, 심지어 가장 친밀했던 제자까지도 그분을 부인했습니다. 그분을 둘러싼 모든 상황이 다 어두웠습니다. 그러나 그 사건들이 악하고 그분이 얼마나 고통을 받으셨다 할지라도, 그분은 그 모든 것을 견디셨으며 그것들을 당당하게 통과하심으로 그분이 승리하고 정복하는 생명이라는 것을 보여 주셨습니다. 주님이 그분의 구속하고 생명을 넣어주는 죽음을 성취하신 후 그분의 고통스러운 상황은 즉시 존귀한 상황으로 바뀌었습니다. 그분이 죽으시기 전에는 모든 것이 악하고 사망적이었습니다. 그분이 죽으신 후에 모든 것들은 즐겁고 유쾌하게 되었습니다. "부자" 아리마대 요셉과 "유대인의 관원" 니고데모가 세마포와 매우 비싼 향품과 몰약과 침향을 가지고 와서 장사를 위해 그분의 몸을 예비했습니다. 그분의 몸을 돌본 것은 가난한 자들이 아니라 존귀한 자들이었으며, "부자와 함께" 새로운 무덤에 그분을 장사지냈습니다. 이로써 우리는 상황 전체가 부요한 상태로, 존귀한 형편으로, 새로운 분위기로 바뀌었다는 것을 봅니다. 이제 주님은 사람들에게 사랑스러워졌으며, 그들은 그분을 매우 높이 평가했습니다. 그러므로 주님은 사람에게 존귀히 여김을 받으심으로 안식하셨습니다. 비록 그분은 수치스럽게 죽음에 넣어지셨지만 존귀하게 장사되셨습니다. 이제 그분의 일이 끝났기 때문에 안식하시며 합당한 안식일을 누리셨습니다. John 19:38 And after these things Joseph from Arimathea [a rich man]... (39) And Nicodemus... came also, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes of about a hundred pounds. (40) Therefore they took the body of Jesus and bound it in linen cloths with the spices, as is the custom of the Jews for burying. (41) Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever yet been laid. (42) ...they laid Jesus there.

Words of Ministry

After the Lord had completed His work in His death, He rested. In John 18 and 19 we see the many evil things and sufferings which came to the Lord. Some treated Him evilly, others mocked Him, and even His most intimate disciple denied Him. Everything in His environment was dark. But, however evil were the events and however much He suffered, He endured them all and passed through them victoriously, showing that He is the victorious and conquering life. After the Lord accomplished His redemptive and life-imparting death, His situation of suffering immediately changed into an honorable one. Before His death, everything was evil and deadly; after His death, everything became pleasant and agreeable. Joseph of Arimathea, “a rich man,” and Nicodemus, “a ruler of the Jews,” came with linen and very expensive spices, myrrh and aloes, to prepare His body for burial. It was not the poor but the noble who cared for His body, burying Him in a new tomb “with the rich.” By this we see that the whole situation was changed into a rich condition, a noble state, a new sphere. The Lord was now dear to people, and they valued Him very highly. Hence, the Lord rested in human honor. Although He was put to death in shame, He was buried in honor... Now that His work had been finished, He rested and enjoyed a proper Sabbath day.
