교회의 가장 높은 정의

성경말씀

(엡3:16~19) 아버지께서 그분의 영광의 풍성을 따라, 그분의 영을 통하여, 능력으로 여러분을 강하게 하셔서 속사람에 이르게 하시고, 믿음을 통하여 그리스도께서 여러분의 마음에 거처를 정하시게 하시며, 여러분이 사랑 안에서 뿌리를 내리고 터를 잡아서, 모든 성도들과 함께 그 너비와 길이와 높이와 깊이가 어떠한지를 깨달을 수 있는 충분한 역량이 있도록 하시고, 또 지식을 초월하는 그리스도의 사랑을 알게 하시어, 하나님의 모든 충만에 이르도록 여러분이 충만하게 되기를 바랍니다. 
(1:23) 교회는 그리스도의 몸이요, 만물 안에서 만물을 충만하게 하시는 분의 충만입니다.

오늘의 만나

그리스도께서 우리 마음에 거처를 정하실 때와 모든 성도가 그리스도의 차원을 알고 체험적으로 그분의 지식에 넘치는 사랑을 알게 될 때, 우리는 하나님의 충만하심으로 채워질 수 있습니다. 이 모든 충만은 그리스도 안에 거하는 것입니다(골1:19, 2:9). 그분이 우리 안에 내주하심을 통하여 그리스도께서는 하나님의 성분을 우리 존재 안으로 계속 넣어 주십니다. 우리는 그러한 분량까지 하나님으로 채워질 수 있고, 그러한 수준에 달할 수 있으며, 심지어는 하나님의 모든 충만에 이를 수 있습니다. 이렇게 우리는 교회가 하나님의 표현이어야 한다는 그분의 뜻을 성취합니다. 이러한 이상의 빛 안에서 교회를 "예배"가 행해지는 물질적인 건물로 여기는 것은 전적으로 틀린 것입니다. 또한 교회를 단지 에클레시아, 즉 하나님께서 불러내신 사람들이 함께 모이는 것으로 보는 것도 충분하지 않습니다. 비록 오늘날 많은 그리스도인들이 "그리스도의 몸"이라는 용어를 사용하지만 이것이 의미하는 바를 분명하게 인식하고 있는 사람은 많지 않습니다. 그리스도의 몸은 그리스도의 표현입니다. 또한 그것은 하나님의 충만인 그리스도의 충만입니다. 우리가 속사람 안으로 강건케 되고, 그리스도께서 우리 마음 안에 거처를 정하시고, 사랑 안에서 뿌리를 내리고 터를 잡고, 측량할 수 없는 그리스도의 차원을 붙잡고 지식을 초월하는 사랑이신 그분을 앎으로써 하나님의 이 충만이 실제적으로 나타나게 됩니다. 우리가 그리스도의 모든 풍성으로 채워지고 그리스도의 어떠하심의 모든 것으로 적셔질 때 우리는 하나님의 충만이 됩니다. 이것이 교회에 대한 가장 높은 정의입니다. ...When Christ makes His home in our hearts and when we are strong to apprehend with all the saints the dimensions of Christ and to know by experience His knowledge-surpassing love, we shall be filled unto all the fullness of God. All this fullness dwells in Christ (Col. 1:19; 2:9). Through His indwelling [us], Christ continually imparts the very element of God into our being. We can be filled with God to such a measure and can attain such a standard, even unto all the fullness of God. In this way we fulfill God's intention that the church should be the expression of God. In the light of such a vision we see that it is utterly wrong to regard the church as a material building where “services” are held. It is also not adequate to view the church merely as the ecclesia, the gathering together of God's called-out people. Although many Christians today use the term “the Body of Christ,” few have any clear realization of what this term signifies. The Body of Christ is the expression of Christ. It is also the fullness of Christ, which is the fullness of God. This fullness of God comes into existence in a practical way by our being strengthened into the inner man, by Christ making his home in our hearts, by our being rooted and grounded in love, by our grasping the dimensions of the immeasurable Christ, and by our knowing Him as the knowledge-surpassing love. When we have been filled with all the riches of Christ and metabolically saturated with all that Christ is, we become the fullness of God. Surely this is the highest definition of the church.
