그리스도의 차원

성경말씀

(엡3:18~19) 모든 성도들과 함께 그 너비와 길이와 높이와 깊이가 어떠한지를 깨달을 수 있는 충분한 역량이 있도록 하시고, 또 지식을 초월하는 그리스도의 사랑을 알게 하시어, 하나님의 모든 충만에 이르도록 여러분이 충만하게 되기를 바랍니다.

오늘의 만나

그리스도를 체험하는데 있어서 우리는 먼저 그분의 어떠하심의 너비를 체험하고, 후에 길이를 체험하게 됩니다. 이것은 수평적인 것입니다. 우리가 그리스도안에서 전진할 때, 우리는 그분의 풍성의 높이와 깊이를 체험하게 됩니다. 이것은 수직적인 것입니다. 만일 우리가 너비없이 단지 그리스도의 길이만을 체험한다면, 우리의 체험은 "선", 즉 극도로 길고 좁은 체험이 될 것입니다. 우리가 "선"의 체험만을 갖는다면, 이 "선"은 결국 극단에 이를 때까지 계속될 것입니다. 만일 여러분이 그리스도를 너비와 길이로 합당하게 정상적으로 체험한다면, 극단으로 흐르지 않을 것입니다. 몇 가지 예를 들어 봅시다. 수년 동안 나는 어떤 위대한 성경 교사의 말을 잘 들었습니다. 그는 성경에 대해 잘 알고 있었습니다. 그는 기도하는데 별로 시간을 드리지 않았지만, 말씀을 읽고 성경에 참고 사항들을 적는 것을 계속했습니다. 한참 동안 성경 이야기를 하고 나서, 그는 담배를 피우기 위해 양해를 구했습니다. 그리고 나서 다시 성경 이야기를 했습니다. 내 고향에 있던 어떤 자매도 역시 "선"의 체험을 갖고 있었습니다. 그녀는 성경을 읽지 않고 기도하는 데에만 전적으로 시간을 드렸습니다. 기도에 극도로 열심이어서 그녀는 며칠 동안 금식 기도를 하기로 작정했습니다. 우리가 그녀를 방문했을 때, 그녀는 칠일 동안의 금식으로 허약해져서 침대에 누워 있었습니다. 우리는 그녀에게 건강을 돌보라고 했지만, 그녀는 우리의 제안에 마음이 상했습니다. 바로 그 다음날, 그녀는 죽었습니다. 이는 "선"의 체험이 얼마나 사람들을 극단에 이르게 하며 길을 벗어나게 하는가를 보여주는 예입니다. 그러므로 우리는 균형잡혀야 합니다. 이 두 가지 예는 우리가 기도와 성경 연구 둘 다에 시간을 들여야 한다는 것을 보여 줍니다. Ephesians 3:18 [you] May be full of strength to apprehend with all the saints what the breadth and length and height and depth are (19) And to know the knowledge-surpassing love of Christ...

Words of Ministry

In our experience of Christ, we firstly experience the breadth of what He is, and then we experience the length. This is horizontal. When we advance in Christ, we experience the height and depth of His riches. This is vertical. If we have only the length of Christ, without any breadth, our experience will be a “line,” that is, an experience that is long and narrow to an extreme... If we have only a “line” experience of Him, this “line” will eventually continue until it reaches an extreme. If you experience Christ properly and normally as the breadth and the length, you will be kept from going to an extreme. Some examples... For a number of years, I listened to a certain great Bible teacher. He was extremely knowledgeable in the Scriptures. Although he spent very little time in prayer, he was constantly reading the Word and writing notes in his Bible. After talking about the Bible for a period of time, he would excuse himself in order to smoke his pipe. Then he would resume his discussion of the Scriptures.... A sister in my home town also had a “line” experience. She did not read the Bible, but devoted a great deal of time to prayer. Being extremely earnest in prayer, she decided to fast and pray for many days. When we visited her, she was in bed, weakened because of seven days of fasting. We encouraged her to take care of her health, but she was offended by our suggestion. On the very next day, she died. This is an example of how a “line” experience can lead people to an extreme, even lead them astray. Therefore, we need to be balanced. These two examples show that we need to take time both to pray and to study the Word.
