주님이 우리 발을 씻기신 이유

성경말씀

(요13:4~5) 저녁 식사 자리에서 일어나시어 겉옷을 벗어 놓으시고, 수건을 가져다가 직접 허리에 동여매셨다. 예수님께서 대야에 물을 부으신 후, 제자들의 발을 씻어 주시고, 허리에 동여매신 수건으로 닦아 주시기 시작하셨다. 
(12) 예수님께서 제자들의 발을 씻어 주신 후에, 겉옷을 입으시고 다시 상에 앉으셔서, 그들에게 말씀하셨다. "내가 여러분에게 행한 것을 아시겠습니까?

오늘의 만나

여러분은 유대인들이 언제 발을 씻는지 알고 있습니까? 특히 그들은 잔치에 올 때 발을 씻습니다. 잔치는 교통을 위한 중심입니다. 그 당시 유대인들은 샌들을 신었고 도로는 먼지투성이였으므로 그들의 발은 쉽게 더러워졌습니다. 더욱이 그들은 우리처럼 식탁에 앉는 것이 아니라 의자나 벤치도 없이 다리를 뻗은 채 마루에 기대었습니다. 만일 그들의 발이 더럽다면 그 악취는 지독했을 것입니다. 우리의 영 안에서 주님은 하나님을 우리 안으로, 우리를 하나님 안으로 이끄셨으므로 영 안에서 우리는 하나님과 하나이고, 우리가 하나님 안에 있기 때문에 영 안에서 우리는 하늘 안에 있습니다. 땅과의 접촉으로 인해 우리는 자주 더러워집니다. 이것은 불가피합니다. 왜냐하면 우리는 땅과의 접촉을 피할 수 없기 때문입니다. 우리는 계속해서 땅을 접촉하며 그것은 우리를 더럽힙니다. (예를 들어 모르는 사이에 다른 이들을 마음 상하게 하거나 다른 이들로 인해 마음 상할 수도 있고 어떤 광고들이 우리에게 "먼지"를 입힐 수도 있습니다.) 우리가 접하는 이 땅은 우리를 더럽게 하므로 주님과의 교통과 서로간의 교통을 방해합니다. 그러므로 발을 씻는 것은 우리가 이 땅 위에 있는 동안 생명 주는 영이신 주께서 우리 발을 씻어 주신다는 것, 즉 주께서 항상 우리의 행함을 땅과의 접촉으로 인한 모든 종류의 더러움으로부터 정결하게 보존해 주신다는 것입니다. 오늘날 우리가 반드시 알아야 할 것은, 주께서는 땅과의 접촉에서 축적된 더러움에서 우리를 씻으시고 정결하게 보전하시기를 갈망하신다는 것입니다. Why the Lord Washes Our Feet

John13:4~5 [Jesus] Rose from supper and laid aside His outer garments; and taking a towel, He girded Himself; Then He poured water into the basin and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. (12) Then when He had washed their feet and taken His outer garments and reclined at the table again, He said to them, Do you know what I have done to you?

Words of Ministry

Do you know the time when the Jews washed their feet? They especially washed their feet when they came to a feast. A feast is a center for fellowship. At that time the Jews wore sandals, and since their roads were dusty, their feet easily became dirty. Furthermore, they did not sit at the table like we do; rather, they reclined on the floor with their legs outstretched without any chairs or benches. If their feet were dirty, the bad odor would have been awful. In our spirit the Lord has brought God into us and us into God, in our spirit we are one with God, and in our spirit we are in the heavenlies because we are in God. But in our body we are still on earth.... Through the earthly touch we are often dirty. This is inevitable, for we cannot avoid the earthly touch. We constantly touch the earth, and this makes us dirty. [For example, we may get offended or offend others even without knowing, or some advertisements could get “dirt” on us]. This earth we touch makes us dirty and hinders the fellowship with the Lord and with one another. Therefore, foot washing means that while we are still on this earth, the Lord as the life-giving Spirit washes our feet, that is, the Lord always keeps our walk clean from every kind of dirt due to the earthly touch. Today we must realize that the Lord is eager to wash and keep us clean from the dirt that we gather from our contact with the earth.
