자신과 동역자들을 부양함

성경말씀

(행20:33~35) 여러분도 아시는 것처럼, 은이나 금이나 의복을 탐낸 적이 없으며, 여러분도 아시는 것처럼, 이 두 손으로 나와 내 일행에게 필요한 것을 공급하였습니다. 내가 모든 일에서 여러분에게 본을 보였으니, 여러분도 이렇게 수고하여 약한 사람들을 도와주어야 하고, 또한 '주는 것이 받는 것보다 복이 있습니다.'라고 하신 주 예수님의 말씀을 기억해야 합니다.

오늘의 만나

바울은 자신과 그의 일행들을 부양하기 위하여 그의 손으로 장막 만드는 일을 했습니다(행18:3). 그는 자기의 젊은 동역자들을 돕기 위해 일했습니다. 이것은 바울의 길이 전도를 직업으로 삼는 오늘날의 성직자들의 길과 같지 않았음을 나타냅니다. 바울과 같이 우리 모두는 어디에 있든지 신약경륜을 짊어져야 합니다. 만일 상황이 허락한다면, 우리는 전시간을 사역의 일에 소비할 수 있습니다. 그렇지 않다면 우리는 자신을 부양하고 또한 다른 사람들을 돕기 위해 일을 해야 합니다. 사도행전 20장 35절에서 바울은 장로들에게 "주는 것이 받는 것보다 복이 있다"라고 하신 주 예수님의 말씀을 기억하라고 요구했습니다. 이 말씀은 복음서에 분명히 기록되어 있지 않습니다. 그 말씀은 구전된 것이 틀림없습니다. 만일 우리가 에베소교회의 장로들에게 한 바울의 말을 조심스럽게 읽는다면, 우리는 바울이 전도를 직업으로 생각하지 않았음을 볼 것입니다. 오히려 바울은 하나님의 신약경륜을 수행하려는 참된 부담을 가졌습니다. Acts 20:33~35 I have coveted no one's silver or gold or clothing. You yourselves know that these hands have ministered to my needs and to those who are with me. In all things I have shown you by example that toiling in this way we ought to support the weak and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

Words of Ministry

Paul worked with his hands at making tents (18:3) in order to support both himself and those who were with him. He worked in order to help his young co-workers. This indicates that Paul's way was not that of today's clergy who make a profession out of preaching. Like Paul, we all should bear the New Testament economy wherever we may be. If the situation allows, we may spend our full time in the work of the ministry. Otherwise, we should do something to support ourselves and also to help others. In verse 35 Paul asked the elders to remember the word of the Lord Jesus: "It is more blessed to give than to receive." This word is not recorded in the Gospels; it must have been received by oral communication. If we carefully read Paul's word to the elders of the church in Ephesus, we shall see that Paul did not consider preaching a profession. Rather, Paul had a genuine burden to carry out God's New Testament economy.
