믿음의 정의

성경말씀

(히11:1) 믿음은 바라는 것들의 실질화요, 보이지 않는 것들의 확증입니다.

오늘의 만나

이 구절은 성경에서 믿음에 대해 정의하는 유일한 구절입니다. '실체화'라는 말은 '어떤 것을 실재가 되게 하는 능력'을 말합니다. 예를 들어 여기 녹색, 붉은색, 노란색으로 그려진 아름다운 그림이 있다고 해봅시다. 이 아름다운 색상들은 오직 눈으로만 실체화할 수 있습니다. 눈이 없다면 색상들이 아무리 아름답다 하더라도 실체화할 수 없을 것입니다. 피아노의 소리는 매우 아름다우나 오직 귀로만이 실체화할 수 있습니다. 그러므로 사물이 존재하는 것이 한 가지이고, 이 사물들의 존재를 실체화하는 것이 또 다른 한 가지입니다. 우리의 믿음도 마찬가지입니다. 하나님의 모든 사실들은 실재입니다. 그러나 이 사실들은 오직 믿음으로서 실체화할 수 있습니다. 왜냐하면 믿음은 바라는 것들의 실체화요 보이지 않는 것들의 확증이기 때문입니다. 뛰어난 그림은 아름다운 풍경을 담고 있을 수 있으나, 소경은 그것을 볼 수 없습니다. 그러나 어떤 사람이 그 그림을 본 적이 없다고해서 그것이 존재하지 않는다고 말할 수 없습니다. 그림은 하나의 사실로서 존재합니다. 문제는 당신이 그 그림으로부터 유익을 얻었느냐 그렇지 않느냐입니다. 시력이 있는 사람은 그 그림을 누릴 것입니다. 즉 그들은 그것으로부터 유익을 얻을 것입니다. 주님은 모든 사람을 위해 십자가에서 죽으사 그분의 피를 흘리셨습니다. 이것은 하나의 사실입니다. 그러므로 어떤 이들은 주님의 죽음이라는 이 사실을 실체화할 수 있는 믿음이 있어 주님의 죽음으로부터 유익을 얻습니다. 그러나 어떤 이들은 믿음이 없습니다. 십자가에서의 주님의 죽음은 여전히 사실이지만 그들은 그것을 체험할 수 없습니다. The Definition of Faith

Heb 11:1 Now faith is the substantiation of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

This is the only verse in the whole Bible that gives the definition of faith... The word “substantiation” means the capacity to make something real. For example, here is a picture in beautiful green, red, and yellow colors, but the beautiful colors can be substantiated only through the eyes. Without the eyes, the colors could not be substantiated no matter how beautiful they are. The sound of the organ is very beautiful, but it can be substantiated only by the ears... Therefore, it is one thing for objects to exist, and it is another thing for the existence of these things to be substantiated. ...The same is true of our faith. All of God’s facts are real. However, these facts of God can be substantiated only by faith, because faith is the substantiation of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. A nice painting may have beautiful scenery, but a blind man cannot see it. However, one cannot say that the painting does not exist because he has not seen it. The painting exists as a fact. The question is whether or not you have received the benefit from the painting. Those with sight will find enjoyment from the painting; they will receive the benefit from it. The Lord has died and shed His blood on the cross for all men. This is a fact. But some have the faith to substantiate this fact of the Lord’s death, and they receive the benefit from it. Some do not have the faith. The death of the Lord on the cross is still a fact, but they are unable to experience it.
