(요12:3~6) 그때에 마리아가 매우 값진 순수한 나드 향유 일 리트라를 가지고 와서 예수님의 발에 바르고 자기 머리털로 그분의 발을 닦아드리니, 그 집이 향유의 향기로 가득 찼다. 그런데 제자들 중 하나이며 예수님을 배반할 가룟 유다가 말하였다. "왜 이 향유를 삼백 데나리온에 팔아서 가난한 사람들에게 주지 않았습니까?" 그가 이렇게 말한 것은 가난한 사람들을 생각해서가 아니라, 그는 도둑이요 또 돈주머니를 맡고 있으면서 거기서 넣는 것을 훔쳐내곤 하였기 때문이다.

그녀(마리아)는 주님을 극진히 사랑하고 또 소유하고 있는 가장 귀한 것을 주님에게 쏟아 붓는 사랑하는 사람들을 대표합니다. 그들은 주님을 너무도 사랑하므로 주님께 가장 좋은 것을 드립니다. 이것이 바로 마리아가 행한 바입니다. 그녀는 값비싼 기름을 주님의 발에 부었고 자신의 머리로 그분의 발을 씻었습니다. 그녀의 마음에는 아무것도 주님만큼 사랑스럽고 귀중하고 값진 것이 없었습니다. 그녀와 같은 다른 많은 사람들과 더불어 그녀는 가지고 있던 가장 좋은 것으로 주님을 사랑했습니다. 그분이 다른 어느 것보다 더 귀하고 사랑스럽다는 것이 그분에 대한 그녀의 평가였습니다. 그녀에게 있어서 주님은 가장 귀하고 가장 값진 분이셨습니다. 유다는 돈은 관심했습니다. 그는 돈을 주님보다 더 사랑했습니다. 그러므로 그는 마리아가 주님께 행한 바를 좋게 여기지 않았습니다. 그는 그것을 낭비라고 생각했습니다. 유다는 자기가 가난한 사람을 관심하는 것처럼 가장했습니다. 사실 그것은 진실이 아니었습니다. 그는 단지 돈을 관심했습니다. 재물을 이기는 것에서 실패하는 것을 교회 생활 안에서 종종 볼 수 있습니다. 주님을 사랑하는 대신, 그분을 배신했습니다. 이런 것이 교회 생활에서 자주 반복된다는 것은 부끄러운 일입니다. John 12:3~6 Then Mary took a pound of ointment, of very valuable pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the ointment. But Judas Iscariot, one of His disciples, who was about to betray Him, said, Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor? But he said this not because it mattered to him concerning the poor, but because he was a thief, and holding the purse, carried off what was put into it.

| She [Mary] represents the dear ones who love the Lord very much and who pour out what they hold most precious upon the Lord. They love the Lord so much that they give the best to the Lord. This is what Mary did. She poured the costly ointment upon the feet of the Lord and wiped His feet with her hair. In her heart, nothing was so dear, so precious, and so costly as the Lord. She, along with many others like her, loved the Lord with the best she had. Her estimate of the Lord was that He was more valuable and lovable than anything else. For her, the Lord is the most precious and the most costly One. ...Judas cared for money; he loved money much more than he loved the Lord. Therefore, he did not appreciate what Mary did to the Lord. He thought that it was a waste. Judas pretended that he cared for the poor. Actually that was not true. He only cared for money... The failure to overcome mammon [money] is so often seen in the church life. Instead of loving the Lord, he betrayed Him! It is a shame that this is often repeated in the church life. | |
