허리에 띠를 띠는 것은 우리 전존재를 강건하게 합니다. 우리 전존재는 진리로 강건하게 되어야 합니다. 이렇게 강건하게 되는 것은 앉기 위한 것이 아니라 서기 위한 것입니다. 4장에서 진리라는 단어가 사용된 예를 따르면, 여기서 진리는 우리 생활 속의 실제이신 그리스도 안에 계신 하나님, 즉 우리 생활로 실제화되고 체험되는 하나님을 언급합니다. 이는 사실상 우리가 살아나타낸 그리스도 자신입니다(요14:6). 그러한 진리로 허리띠를 띨 때 우리는 서기 위해 강건해집니다. 그러나 여러분의 일상생활에서 예수 안에 있는 진리의 표준에 훨씬 미달된다면, 악한 날에 능히 서서 대적하는 대신 오히려 여러분은 달아날 것입니다. 여러분의 일상생활 가운데 간증도, 하나님의 표현도 없기 때문에 여러분은 마귀의 궤계에 대항하여 서 있을 힘이 없을 것이기 때문입니다. 우리의 일상생활이 느슨하다면 우리는 능히 어두움의 권세에 대항하여 서 있을 수 없습니다. 서 있기 위해서는 우리의 일상생활이 반드시 진리의 원칙에 따라야 하며 진리의 표준에 도달해야 합니다. 그런 사람들은 진리로 허리에 띠를 띠었기 때문에 대적자 앞에 서 있을 수 있습니다. 그러나 하나님이 우리 일상생활과 행함 가운데 표현되지 않는다면 우리는 허리띠를 띠지 못하고 대적 앞에 서서 대항할 힘을 갖지 못할 것입니다.

  For us to gird our loins is to strengthen our entire being. Our whole being needs to be strengthened with truth. This strengthening is not for sitting, but for standing. According to the way the word truth is used in chapter four, truth here refers to God in Christ as reality in our living, that is, God realized and experienced by us as our living. This is actually Christ Himself lived out by us (John 14:6). This is nothing less than God Himself expressed in our living in a practical way. When such a truth girds our loins, we are made strong for the purpose of standing. Suppose, however, that your daily living is far below the standard of the truth as it is in Jesus. Instead of being able to stand and to withstand in the evil day, you will flee. Because in your daily walk there is no testimony and no expression of God, you do not have the strength to stand against the stratagems of the Devil. If our daily living is loose, we are not able to stand against the powers of darkness. In order for us to stand, our daily living must be according to the principle of the truth and up to the standard of the truth.... These are the ones who are able to face attack and opposition. Because they are girded with truth, they can stand before the opposers. But if God is not expressed in our daily life and walk, we shall not have a girdle about our loins, and we shall have no strength to stand against the enemy.
