소중히 품는 것은 부드러운 사랑으로 키우고 따스한 돌봄으로 품어주는 것입니다. 이것은 그리스도께서 그분의 몸인 교회를 돌보시는 방법입니다. 어떤 것을 소중히 한다는 것은 그것을 깊이있고 다정하게 돌보는 것이며 따스함으로 부드럽게 해주는 것입니다. 예를 들어 어미새는 날개로 새끼새들을 품어서 그 몸의 온기로 부드럽게 해줍니다. 어미새의 품 안에서 어린 새들은 부드럽고 포근해집니다. 어미새의 사랑스런 품에서 나오는 온기가 추워하는 어린 새들을 부드럽게 하고 포근하게 합니다. 이렇게 소중히 품는 것을 통해 전달되는 따스함은 상대방을 불태우는 것이 아니라 그들의 마음을 녹입니다. 이것이 바로 교회 안에서 주님이 우리에게 하시는 것입니다. 비록 주님을 사랑한다 해도 어떤 때는 우리의 체험에서 우리는 "차가운 새들"이 됩니다. 주님께 거역하지는 않으나 차갑게 될 수 있습니다. 그럴 때 주님은 우리를 따스하게 하시려고 그분의 날개를 펴시어 우리를 품으십니다. 그분의 품으심에서 나오는 따스함으로 주님은 "차가운 새들"을 부드럽게 하시고 우리의 굳은 마음을 녹이십니다. 이것이 그분의 몸에 대한 주님의 다정한 사랑입니다. 우리가 소중히 품는 분위기 안에 있을 때 우리는 사역의 모든 말씀을 흡수하게 됩니다. 이것은 소중히 품으심 아래서 우리가 목양받는다는 것을 말합니다. 그렇게 목양되고 소중히 품어지는 교회는 강하고 건강하게 될 것입니다.

  To cherish is to nurture with tender love and foster with tender care. This is the way Christ cares for the church as His Body. To cherish something is to care for it deeply and tenderly. It is to soften it through tender warmth. For example, a mother bird softens baby birds with the warmth of her body as she holds them under her wings. Under her embrace, the little birds are warmed tenderly. The heat from the loving embrace of the mother's body softens and warms the cold little birds. The warmth conveyed through such cherishing does not burn others; it soothes them tenderly and even melts their hearts. This is exactly what the Lord does to us in the church. Although we love the Lord, sometimes in our experience we become “cold birds.” We may not rebel against the Lord, but we may become cold. At these times, the Lord embraces us, spreading His wings over us in order to warm us up. By the warmth of His embrace He softens the “cold birds” and melts our hard hearts. This is the Lord's tender love for His Body....Whenever we are in an atmosphere of cherishing, we can absorb every word of the ministry [nourishing]. This indicates that under the cherishing we receive nourishing. A church that is nourished and cherished in such a way will be strong and healthy.
