위의 말씀들은 그리스도인이라면 반드시 하나님에 의해 계시를 받은 그리스도인이어야 한다는 것을 분명히 보여줍니다. 만일 그리스도인이 되기 원한다면 당신은 이 계시와 지식을 가져야 합니다. 만일 당신이 예수님의 생활에 대해 탄복한다 할지라도 그리스도인이 되지는 못합니다. 만일 당신이 예수님의 가르침은 매우 깊은 철학을 담고 있다고 말한다 할지라도 당신은 또한 그리스도인이 되지 못합니다. 당신은 이 말에 동의하지 않을지도 모릅니다. 당신은 다음과 같이 말하며 논쟁할지도 모릅니다. "나는 예수님을 높이고 그분을 존중한다. 나는 기독교를 향하여 상당히 기울어져 있고 호의적이다. 이것은 내가 그리스도인이 되기에 충분하지 않은가?" 아닙니다. 그렇지 않습니다. 그리스도인이 되는 것은 탄복하는가 탄복하지 않는가의 문제가 아닙니다. 기독교에 대하여 호의적인가 악의적인가의 문제도 아닙니다. 어떤 사람들은 주 예수님을 침례자 요한이나 엘리야 혹은 예레미야라고 여겼습니다. 침례자 요한이 좋지 않았습니까? 엘리야가 좋지 않았습니까? 예레미야가 좋지 않았습니까? 그러나 이러한 것은 모두 사람의 관점이요 사람의 의견일 뿐입니다. 기독교는 절대적으로 사람으로부터 기인하지 않습니다. 그러므로 사람의 관점과 사람의 의견이 기독교를 대체할 수 없습니다. 기독교는 계시의 종교입니다. 오직 하나님으로부터 계시를 받고, 주 예수님을 그리스도시요 살아계신 하나님의 아들로 아는 사람만이 주님의 축복을 받은 사람입니다. 일단 사람이 계시를 받으면 그는 성령 안에 계신 주 예수님을 만지게 되고, 그는 주 예수님과 얼굴과 얼굴을 맞대게 됩니다. 그는 주님과 직접적인 관계를 갖게 되고, 주님과 접촉을 갖게 됩니다. 예를 좀 들어보겠습니다. 어떤 형제의 집에 있는 전기선이 낡게 되었습니다. 잘못하면 전기선으로 인해 감전될 수도 있었습니다. 그 형제는 충분히 주의하지 않았고, 전기선을 만지게 되었습니다. 즉시로 그는 손을 뒤로 빼며 소리쳤습니다. "아이 깜짝이야! 아이 깜짝이야!" 그의 어린 아들이 아버지가 손을 내밀었다가 뒤로 빼는 것을 보고, 아버지의 흉내를 내면서 마치 쇼크를 받은 것처럼 했습니다. 조그만 손을 내밀었다가 뒤로 빼면서 소리쳤지요. "아이 깜짝이야! 아이 깜짝이야!" 그러나 우리는 그 아들이 외적인 방식으로 행동한 것을 알고 있습니다. 그 아이는 흉내 냈던 것이지요. 그러나 아버지는 정말로 전기 쇼크를 받았고, 그 체험의 실재를 맛보았던 것입니다. 형제자매님들! 외적인 모방은 중요하지 않습니다. 중요한 것은 참되게 맛보는 것입니다. 당신은 전류를 만진 그 형제처럼 그리스도를 만져야 합니다. 당신은 나사렛 예수님이 오늘날 하나님의 아들이신 것을 아십니까? 중요한 것은 사람이 말한 것이 아니라 당신 안에서 당신이란 사람이 말하는 그것이 중요합니다.

  This [vv. above] shows us clearly that a Christian must be one who has received a revelation from God. If you want to be a Christian, you must have this revelation and knowledge. If you say that you admire the life of Jesus, this will not make you a Christian. If you say that Jesus' teaching contains some very deep philosophy, this will not make you a Christian either. You may not agree with this word. You may argue: “I admire Jesus and honor Him; I am favorably inclined towards Christianity. Does that not make me a Christian?” No, it does not. Being a Christian is not a question of admiring or not admiring; it is not a question of being favorably or ill inclined towards Christianity. Some considered the Lord Jesus to be John the Baptist, Elijah, or Jeremiah. Was not John the Baptist good? Was not Elijah good? Was not Jeremiah good? Yet these were all man's views and man's opinions. Christianity is absolutely not from man. Therefore, human views and human opinions cannot replace Christianity. Christianity is a religion of revelation. Only those who have received a revelation from God and who know the Lord Jesus as the Christ, the Son of the living God, are blessed by the Lord. Once a man receives a revelation, he touches the Lord Jesus in the Holy Spirit, and he comes face to face with the Lord Jesus. He has a direct relationship with Him and has made contact with the Lord. Let me give a little illustration. Once an electrical power line in a brother's home became worn out. It was easy to receive an electric shock from the wire. The brother was not careful enough and touched the line. Immediately he withdrew his hand and shouted, “What a shock! What a shock!” His young son saw how his hand stretched out and pulled back, and he imitated his father and pretended that he had been shocked also. He stretched out his little hand and pulled it back shouting, “What a shock! What a shock!” But we know that the son was acting in an outward way; he was imitating. The father was genuinely shocked by the electricity; he tasted the reality of the experience. Brothers and sisters, outward imitations do not count; it is the real taste that counts. You must touch Christ like the brother who touched the electrical current. Do you know that Jesus of Nazareth is the Son of God today? It is not what men say, but what you say within yourself that counts.
