| 살전2:7下~8 젖을 먹이는 어머니가 자기 자녀들을 보살피는 것 같이 하였습니다. 여러분을 이처럼 열렬히 사랑하였기에, 우리는 하나님의 복음뿐만 아니라 우리 자신의 목숨까지도 기꺼이 여러분에게 주고 싶었습니다. 그것은 여러분이 우리의 사랑을 받는 사람들이 되었기 때문입니다. | |

비록 바울은 형제였지만, 그는 자신을 젖을 먹이는 어머니로 여겼습니다. 분명 그는 위치, 위엄, 귄위에 대한 사상을 갖지 않았습니다. 젖을 먹이는 어머니라는 사상은 위엄이나 위치에 대한 사상과는 전혀 다릅니다. 젖을 먹이는 어머니에게 어떤 위치, 위엄, 귄위가 있습니까? 그녀의 위엄은 자녀들에게 젖을 먹이고, 소중히 품고, 부드러운 방식으로 돌보는 데 있습니다. '소중히 품다'라는 말은 '최상의 부드러움'이라는 말이며 사랑스러운 말입니다. 바울은 자신을 다만 섬기는 사람이 아닌, 소중히 품는 사람으로 여겼습니다. 그는 분명히 믿는 이들을 통제하지 않았습니다. 그는 다만 믿는 이들을 섬기는 것만도 아니었습니다. 오히려 그는 그들을 소중히 품었습니다. 믿는 이에 대한 바울의 돌봄은 부드러움으로 가득했습니다. 8절에서 '열렬히 사랑하였기에'라는 말은 '넘치는 애정으로 좋아하였기에', '넘치는 애정으로 그리워하였기에'를 의미합니다. 이것은 마치 젖을 먹이는 어머니가 자신이 양육하고 보살피는 아이를 넘치는 애정으로 관심하는 것과 같습니다. 이것이 사도들이 새로운 믿는 이들에게 행하였던 바였습니다. 사도들은 데살로니가 사람들에게 하나님의 복음을 나누어주었을 뿐만 아니라 그들 자신의 혼까지도 주었습니다. 이것은 고린도후서 12장에서 믿는 이들을 위해 자신을 소비한 것에 관한 그 자신의 말에 비할 수 있습니다. 바울은 기꺼이 자신이 가진 것뿐만 아니라 자신 즉 그의 모든 존재까지도 소비하고자 했습니다. 사도들은 기꺼이 그들 자신의 어떠함을 믿는 이들 안으로 분배하고자 했던 것입니다. 이것은 젖을 먹이는 어머니가 아이에게 자신을 주는 것에 비할 수 있습니다.

Even though Paul was a brother, he considered himself a nursing mother. Surely, he had no thought of position, dignity, or authority. The thought of being a nursing mother is very different from the thought of dignity or position. What rank, dignity, or authority belongs to her? Her dignity consists in nourishing and cherishing her children, in taking care of them in a tender way. The word cherish is lovely, a word of utmost tenderness. Paul regarded himself as a cherishing one, not merely as one who serves. He certainly did not control the believers. Neither did he merely serve them. Rather, he cherished them. His care for them was full of tenderness. The word yearning [in vs. 8] indicates being affectionately fond of, affectionately desirous of, like a nursing mother affectionately interested in her child whom she nourishes and cherishes. This was what the apostles did with the new believers. The apostles not only imparted the gospel of God to the Thessalonians; they also imparted their own souls. [This] can be compared to his word in 2 Corinthians 12 about being spent for the sake of the believers. Paul was willing to spend not only what he had, but was willing to spend himself, his very being. The apostles were willing to impart what they were into the believers. This can be compared to a nursing mother giving herself to her child. | |
