15 -데살로니가 전서 1장 8절- 주의 말씀이 너희에게로부터 마게도냐와 아가야에만 들릴 뿐 아니라 하나님을 향하는 너희 믿음의 소문이 각처에 퍼진고로 우리는 아무 말도 할 것이 없노라15

15 믿음이 어떤 것이라고 말하기는 대단히 어렵습니다. 그러나 이 구절을 주의깊게 살펴보면 우리는 믿음에 대한 합당한 이해를 가질 수 있습니다.15

15 첫째로 믿음은 우리에게 전파된 말씀을 가지는 것입니다. 다음으로 믿음은 우리가 말씀을 영접하고 퍼져 나가게 하는 것을 포함합니다. 이러한 말씀이 바로 믿음입니다. 복음의 말씀은 전파되고 영접되고 선포되어집니다. 말씀은 이런 식으로 우리 안에서 믿음이 됩니다. 전파자가 말할 때 그 말씀이 복음입니다. 그러나 우리가 말씀을 영접할 때, 특별히 우리가 그 말씀을 퍼져나가게 할 때 그 말씀을 우리 안에서 믿음이 됩니다.15

15 복음 전파자가 믿지 않는 이에게 사람의 타락과 하나님의 구원에 대해 말한다고 합시다. 복음을 전파하는 사람은 믿지 않는 이에게, 하나님이 그리스도 안에서 성육신되었고 우리 죄들을 위해 십자가에서 못 박혔고 죽은 자 가운데서 부활하여 우리 안에 거하기 위해 생명 주는 영이 되었음을 말합니다. 그 믿지 않는 사람이 복음의 말씀을 영접하고 그 말씀을 선포할 때 그것이 믿음이 됩니다.15

15 Faith is Accepting and Declaring the Word15

15 1 Thessalonians 1:5 For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit... (6) And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction with joy of the Holy Spirit, (8) For from you the word of the Lord has sounded out...your faith toward God has gone out...15

15 It is very difficult to say what faith is. However, by considering these verses carefully, we can have a proper understanding of faith.15

15 First, faith is a matter of having the word preached to us. Next, faith includes our accepting of the word and our sounding it out. This kind of word is faith. The word of the gospel is preached, accepted, and declared. In this way the word becomes faith within us. In the speaking of the preacher, the word is the gospel. But when we accept the word, and especially when we sound out the word, it becomes faith within us.15

15 Suppose a preacher of the gospel speaks to an unbeliever concerning man's fall and God's salvation. The one who preaches the gospel tells the unbeliever that in Christ God was incarnate, that He was crucified for our sins, that He was resurrected from among the dead, and that He has become the life-giving Spirit in order to dwell in us. When this unbeliever receives the word of the gospel and declares it, it becomes faith.15
