요한복음 1장 1절

Question: "A Jehovah's Witness told me that John 1:1 was mistranslated in my Bible. He said the correct translation should be 'the Word was a god' rather than 'the Word was God'. He said because the word 'god' doesn't have an article in front of it, it shouldn't be capitalized. Is he correct?"

질문: “한 여호와의 증인이 제가 가지고 있는 회복역 성경에서 요한복음 1장 1절이 잘못 번역되었다고 말했습니다. 그는 ‘말씀은 곧 하나님이셨다’가 아니라 ‘말씀은 하나의 신이다’가 바른 번역이라고 말했습니다. 그는 말하기를 ‘하나님’(god)이란 단어가 그 앞에 관사가 없기때문에 대문자가 되어서는 안 된다고 했습니다. 그가 한 말이 맞는 것인지요?”

Answer: The Jehovah's Witnesses' New World Translation has deliberately mistranslated all verses pertaining to the deity of Christ, including John 1:1, 8:58, 10:33, 14:9, Acts 20:28, Rom. 9:5, Phil. 2:5-6, Col. 1:16, 2:9, Titus 2:13, and Heb. 1:8.

답변: 여호와의 증인들의 신세계역은 요 1:1, 8:58, 10:33, 14:9, 행 20:28, 롬 9:5, 빌 2:5-6, 골 1:16, 2:9, 딛 2:13, 히 1:8 등 그리스도의 신성을 가리키는 모든 구절들을 의도적으로 변개시켰습니다.

Every Bible translation and version, with the exception of the New World Translation, agree the passage is correctly translated "the Word was God." Here's why:

(여호와의 증인들의) 신세계역을 제외한 모든 성경번역과 역본은 이 부분을 “말씀은 곧 하나님이셨다” 라고 번역하는 것이 옳다고 동의합니다. 그 이유는 다음과 같습니다:

1. The word "God" appears 282 times in the Greek without the article (anarthrous) in the New Testament. In order to be consistent with their "a god" translation, the New World Translation (NWT) should translate all anarthrous verses "a god." But this is not what we find. Instead, the NWT translates it "God" a whopping 266 times and god, a god, gods, and godly only 16 times! (The Jehovah's Witnesses' New Testament, Robert H. Countess, Presbyterian and Reformed Publishing Co., 1982, pp. 54-55). This proves the NWT deliberately changed John 1:1 to fit their theology. The verse is correctly translated, "The Word was God."

 1. 헬라어 신약 성경에서 “하나님”(God)이란 단어가 관사없이(무관사) 사용된 예는 282번입니다. 신세계역(NWT)이 ‘a god’를 “하나의 신”이라고 번역하는 것에 일관성을 가지려면, 모든 무관사의 경우를 다 그렇게 번역했어야 합니다. 그러나 그렇지 못했습니다.  신세계역은 무려 266회는 그것을 그냥 ‘하나님’ (God)이라고 했고, 고작 16 회만 ‘신’(god), ‘신들’(gods),’경건한(godly)으로 번역 했습니다(여호와의 증인 신약성경, 로버트 H. 카운테스, 장로교 개혁출판사, 1982, 54-55쪽). 이것은 신세계역이 요한복음 1장 1절을 그들의 교리에 맞추기 위하여 의도적으로 변개했음을 증명합니다. 그 구절은 “말씀은 곧 하나님이셨다”라고 번역하는 것이 맞습니다.

2. The New World Translation overlooks Colwell's rule in Greek which says, "A definite predicate nominative has the article when it follows the verb; it does not have the article when it precedes the verb." Simply stated, the word "God" doesn't need an article in John 1:1 because in Greek it precedes the verb.

2. 신세계 역은 “한정 서술 명사가 동사 뒤에 오면 관사를 가지나, 그것이 동사 앞에 오면 관사를 가지지 않는다.”는 헬라어 문법상의 '콜웰 법칙'(Colwell's rule) 을 간과했습니다. 간단히 말해서, 요한복음 1장 1절에서 “하나님”(God)은 헬라어로 볼 때 동사 앞에 옴으로 관사가 필요 없습니다.

3. In The New World Translation "God" is capitalized in John 1:6, 12, 13, and verse 18 (twice), yet all are without the articles! This proves once again, the committee that translated the NWT deliberately changed John 1:1 to "a god." To this day, the names of the translators of the NWT remain a secret.

           3. 요한복음 1:6, 12, 13, 18(2회) 에서 “하나님”(God)은 신세계역에서 관사가 없음에도 대문자로 되어 있습니다 ! 이것은 신세계역 번역위원회가 요한복음 1장 1절을 의도적으로 ‘하나의 신’(a god)이라고 변개시켰음을 증명합니다. 신세계역을 번역한 사람들의 이름은 지금까지도 비밀에 부쳐지고 있습니다.
